WFR - Boulder Colorado Date: May 25, 2009
Pros: rigorous
Cons: too many students

"A great course. Well organized. Excellent location. Excellent instructors. A lot of information is packed into 10 days. The frequent hands-on training was most helpful. My only criticism is that there can be too many students. Demonstrations can be lost in the crowd. Instructor- student ratio does not help. Student numbers should be held below 20, 15 would be better."

"This class was great. I had been wanting to take a WFR class for several years and I finally got the chance. The instructors were really knowledgeable and taught a structured well thought out class. I already had basic first aid skills, but not much experience practicing skills in scenarios. The scenarios made all the difference in this class. That is where I feel like I learned the most. I am getting involved in volunteer search and rescue and the WFR was a requirement. But I would have taken the class anyway to be more repaired for outdoor activities. Less than one month after I finished my WFR class I assisted in loading a litter onto a National Guard helicopter on Mt. Hood."

"It was such a pleasure attending class not only with knowledgeable, funny, and enthusiastic teachers but with an entire class of students who really wanted to maximize their learning experience. I was at first afraid the ratio of teachers to students was too small, but Phuong, Steve and John made it work. The three of them put an unbelievable amount of energy into that class. I feel like the WFR course is just the beginning, that it gave us a framework on which to build in more education where each of us needs it."

Outstanding First Responder Training! Date: April 18, 2009
Pros: effective use of class and hands-on, fast paced
Cons: helpful to have a basic first aid course prior

"Highly effective combination of didactic and lecture material presented by experienced and knowledgeable instructors. This course is a must for anyone who travels, works or does recreation in the backcountry. The experience and skills learned through this course gave me confidence that I will be prepared for an emergency or accident in the back woods. Nursing school never taught us how to extricate patients from between trees! This intense course was the missing link between my nursing and military training. I highly recommend it to anyone!"

great time and experiance! Date: April 16, 2009
Pros: great/ very knowledgeable instructors, lots of fun and very interactive
Cons: a ton of information in a very short period

"This was an amazing experience and worth every cent and time invested! instructors were very knowledgeable and from many different backgrounds adding great depth by experience to every aspect of the class. I wish all calls were/are as much fun as playing with the fake blood and makeup we got to use for the class; but since there not....you need to take at least this class!!! Would recommend to anybody interested in the outdoors especially rec activities like fishing and hunting!"

Best spring break Date: April 15, 2009
"I spent this last spring break of college taking the WFR course and I have to say that is was the best way to spend a break. I learned so much useful knowledge that can be applied to my future jobs in wilderness settings. The course is intense and hard work, but if you are looking to spend a lot of time in the backcountry I feel that this class is essential. After taking the course I feel prepared for almost every situation. Also I had fun everyday of the class."

Definitely worth taking Date: April 15, 2009
"Overall, a very high-paced, dynamic, intelligent class. I was very pleasantly surprized by the quality of the information, the instructors, the rate of teaching, and the instructors' "teaching to the next level". Steve, Phong, and John were great.

The only real down side of the course was that the Wilderness First Aid book used in the class was for a lower level than the material actually presented in the class. This was mostly ok, because there was a supplemental packet used for the course, but you would have to go elsewhere for any supplemental information.

Other than that, it's ten days of one of the best classes I've ever taken. Just be prepared to have no life outside the class for that time period. Bravo, guys.

WFR Course 20-29 March 2009 Seattle Date: April 15, 2009
"I took the WFR class at Discovery Park, Seattle, WA in March 2009 and from the moment I stepped into the classroom I never looked back. The amount of material that was covered throughout the intense 10 days helped me build the confidence I need as a mountain climbing instructor. The careful balance of practice, demos, lectures and scenarios was ideal to let all the skills sink in until they became second-nature.
I can't say enough about the motivation and dedication of the RMI instructors giving the class. Their obvious passion for the material and for teaching it was contagious and well appreciated from all the students. They also come to teach this class with real life experiences that serve as examples for the skills covered.
I enjoyed every minute of this class, graduated with a tremendous amount of new skills and knowledge about WFR, and highly recommend it to anyone spending serious time out there in the wilderness.

My brain is now full of useful info Date: April 12, 2009
"This course was great overall - extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic (and funny) instructors, much practical information, a goodly amount of practice. I have a new respect for EMTs and folks who practice this sort of first aid for a living though - there is a lot more to remember than I ever suspected. Don't take this class thinking it will be easy. Do take it if you want to feel like you really accomplished something and gain some competence in wilderness first aid."

Confidence Builder Date: April 12, 2009
Pros: good material, awesome instructors, hands on expereince
Cons: large class sizes

"I had been thinking about taking a WFR course for years, but finally did it as it was required by my job. I thought the course might have a lot of stuff I already knew and was just a certification I needed to have on paper. However, I ended up learning a lot and feel much more confident not only as a field instructor, but as a person who loves to spend as much time doing outdoor activities as possible.
The instructors were great, easy-going and helpful. They loved what they did and were always considerate of class questions and general mood. I thought the class size was a bit large, but it useful to get different perspectives and experience stories.
If you're someone that likes to backpack, climb, ski, mountaineer, etc. this is an awesome intro to wilderness medicine!!

"It was hard to fork over the money, but the way the course prepared me for the work I'm doing and the fun I like to have is priceless. Instead of feeling unprepared to face wilderness emergencies, I can now take an active role in keeping trips as safe and fun-filled as possible. Even though the class was over 30 people, we connected really well and they were quality people to learn with. The hands-on practice and the wide-ranging combined expertise of our three instructors made the class humorous and practical. The presentation was comprehensive and professional. After taking this course I'm convincing all my outdoor enthusiast friends that it is essential for them. And, even though I'd heard good things about the course, RMI far surpassed my expectations"

"I took the Wilderness First Responder Cousre as a prerequisite for mountain guiding and really enjoyed it. The instructors were very good and all had a great ability to make the students feel comfortable in an intense ten day course. The eight hour a day for ten straight days was ideal, that format really allows you to focus with no distractions. I highly recommend this course for anyone looking for a WFR'r certification."

The best way to learn Date: April 10, 2009
Pros: tons of info, fun, great instructors
Cons: little expensive, too short!

"Though the WFR class I took at western Washington University was a big class (~25 students) the three instructors did a great job of rotating and keeping the material engaging. The hands on scenarios were definitely the the best way to practice and really learn the skills of a first responder in the wilderness."

No Better Deal!! Date: April 10, 2009
"The WFR program is absolutely, hands down, a necessity for any outdoor guide, leader, or enthusiast. At first I was hesitant to spend the money on one of these courses but as soon as the first day was concluded I was convinced that it was a good choice.

The instructors were incredibly fun and entertaining. Some of the lectures got pretty long but it was always followed up with some hands on. Actually a lot of hands on. When I looked at the course schedule there was a lot of stuff I didn't know, so I was concerned that there was going to be a lot of lecturing and not enough hands on. I was proven wrong on the first day!

I took it in December of 2008 in Seattle, WA which was when it was incredibly snowy, icy and cold. I figured that there is no better time to learn and test your skills than in a harsh environment.

No doubt I would consider taking another course from Remote Medical. From what I heard from my instructors, I will soon be looking into taking one of the Wilderness EMT courses.

I give these guys my full recommendation. Anyone looking for a basic or advanced first aid course, Remote Medical is the place to go.
