Great Course, Excellent Instructors
Date:June 7, 2011
Pros: instructors, instruction, location
Cons: 8:00am start was a bit early for me :-)
"After being in school all week I was regretting the decision to sit through class for my weekend. To my surprise, the entire course was interesting and I felt engaged each day.
Good balance of lecture, scenarios, and demonstrations. Not only did this course refresh my knowledge learned in my initial cert, there was a lot of new things I ended up learning too.
Also I had initially got my cert through WMA and found the switch to WMI to be easy.
This course also inspired me to consider taking the month long WEMT course at some point in the future,
Highly recommended!"

WFR-recert
Date:June 6, 2011
"Excellent course and excellent company:
Before I talk about the course though, the day I started my 3 day WFR-rectification, my wife called to inform me her dad needed immediate open heart surgery! I told her to start making plans and we would do what ever was needed in regards to the course. I talked to the lead instructor and told him I could finish the day but I could not finish the course, but, I still wanted to recertify. He said don’t worry about it, call RMI and make arrangements to attend the remaining 2 days elsewhere. That’s what I did and RMI handled it without a hiccup. I even noticed the schedule of lectures was different between the courses and they prior coordinated with the instructors to take me out of a section I had already received and give me the lecture I would have missed, one on one. When I showed up for my 1st day of the rescheduled course (the classes’ 2nd day), I walked up to whom I assumed were the instructors and before I could say anything the said you must be John Smith (not my real name). Very good customer service and dad-in-law pulled through the quadruple bypass to boot.
The course was well organized and presented by knowledgeable outdoor/remote medical professionals. Dave, Kate and Phoebe tag-teamed the courses and scenarios back to back, keeping it fast paced and interesting while covering all the pertinent topics leaving little time for mind wandering. All the while, answering questions to their level of expertise without going into infinitum or prolonged “there I was” stories to the detriment of the learning process. For my personal level of training and experience I would have preferred a little bit quicker classes and an equal bit more of the hands on stuff but I can see how others may have wanted it the opposite."

Solid Course, Great Instructors
Date:May 25, 2011
"Having taken WMI (of NOLS) recerts for the past six years, I was hesitant to recert with another organization, but found that this class was thorough and well-taught--definitely comparable to a WMI WFR recert. The instructors were excellent teachers. They were enthusiastic, well-informed, and committed to helping us review our skills.
The one main difference from a WMI WFR recert, is that Remote Medical focused on many skills that are more useful for SAR or ski patrol than for an outdoor educator. We did more work with stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers, backboards, c-collars, OPAs, and NPAs than I have ever done with either WMI or SOLO, and since I never have any of these things in the backcountry with me, I found the time spent on these skills to be somewhat unnecessary. That said, we still managed to cover all the topics pertinent to backcountry care, so I do not feel like anything was missed.
I am thrilled to have found Remote Medical and would definitely do my WFR recertification with them again. Their cert is recognized by WMI, NOLS, and other outdoor education organizations that I work for, and they hold classes in urban areas (such as Seattle) and are thus very accessible. (I didn't have to travel up to the NOLS branch in Conway, WA in order to get recerted!)
I definitely recommend this course!"

"... this is what I would do. My first re-certification and I couldn't believe how rusty some of my medical skills were. The instructors get right to the point and 60% of the time, it's hands-on scenarios work. The material is well organized and delivered in a straightforward, concise manner. They take the time to answer your questions but don't get bogged down trying to answer every hypothetical situation."

Best Medical Recert Ever!
Date:May 22, 2011
Pros: concise, efficient, practical
Cons: none
"I was a military officer for a decade and have been an outdoor enthusiast most of my life. I've had the opportunity to take multiple medical classes from many of the different organizations. The WFR/WEMT recert I just finished with Phong and Kate was by far the best recert course I've ever attended! Phong and Kate were very competent and efficient instructors while efficiently blending real life experience with classroom teaching and practical exercises. Job well done! I will look to RMI when I'm ready to pull the trigger on the WEMT course."

Great course!
Date:April 22, 2011
Pros: clear, concise, applicable scenarios
"The re-cert is a must if working in the outdoor industry. That being said -- I expected it to not be beneficial much at all; however, I benefited a great deal from the recert.
The pace and instructors were very conducive to all learning styles and did a very good job at relating the material to the professional lives of the participants.

Solid. Enthusiastic Instructors.
Date:April 18, 2011
"What drew me initially to RMI was their proximity to Seattle, and that this class is just like WMI and WMA's only less expensive.
That said, I liked this recert just as much, and even more, than anything I've done with WMI/A. The instructors had a good sense of our class energy level and tailored accordingly, which is a huge key, I think, in a course like this.
Recommend easily."

Pros: central locale
Cons: no camping
"I was psyched to arrive at Discovery Park last fall and meet a class full of future friends at the nature center. I had heard the instructors name before and was excited to hear that he was from Juneau. As I met some of the students I realized there were quite a few similarities among us, not to mention some common friends. Something I've always liked about wilderness medicine, a sense of community and a common interest to do good by one another. As the class got under way we began to review the importance of the first responder knowledge we share. After all the cramming was done , we had a final scenario that was simmulated real enough for the actual Seattle Fire Department to respond to the scene. Not intending for Joe Public to be alarmed we left that day with a complete overview of how to deal with incident command, triage, trauma, medical emergencies as well as some simpler situations practical to the outdoor adventures we all share a passion for. Great job remote medical I would suggest this recertification to others as well might sign up for a class with you again."

Pros: excellent instruction, great location, bus accessible
Cons: tests/paperwork, few food choices nearby
"Course was conducted well. The tests did not reflect the high standard of instruction and the administration to get registered and get completion cards took time. I would recommend this course to anyone who requires Wilderness EMT/WFR re-certification.
I took public transportation from Everett, WA and that proved to be a little tricky due to schedules - especially the Sunday/holiday schedule. The location is great for the course. There are few choices for lunch near by, so recommend bringing food."

Great Refresher Course
Date:July 25, 2008
Pros: instructors experience, great gear, realistic scenarios & hands-on practice
Cons: college campus not exactly "wilderness"
"I've been a mountain guide for several years and have taken WFR-Recertification courses with most of the companies out there. My most recent course with Remote Medical was one of the best that I can remember. I really like the 24-hour format that includes a CPR recert. The instructors were great and had lots of first-hand experience with the material they were teaching. We got plenty of hands-on practice during scenarios and the gear condition and organization was the best I've seen at any course I have taken.
The location could have been better (it was on a college campus) and we definitely moved through topics quickly. I guess that's what you get when you're recertifying an 80 hour course in 24 hours, though. If I wanted more time I could always take the full class again.

Not so helpful...
Date:April 21, 2008
"I had high expectations for the WFR recertification course after reading a few good reviews, but I was disappointed with the course when we finished. The organization of the three-day course was well outlined (on paper) but seemed clumsy during our review. The instructors were often not very professional and seemed elsewhere with their thoughts. Not many scenarios were acted out over the three days (and none on the last day), and the scenarios that were given were not helpful or challenging."

RMI is my training provdier of choice!
Date:September 25, 2007
Pros: Customer service, student development and curriculum
Cons: None
"I have a 12 year background in Outdoor Education and 5 years as a military officer. I have been a WFR/WEMT since 1998 and trained with the majority of providers in the states. My RMI recert was by far the best. The curriculum is intense and highly relevant which optimizes the training time. RMI's customer service is excellent, they worked with me on my busy operational schedule. In addition, they assisted me in the EMT recertification process. The crew at RMI is the best in the industry, I look forward to my next course with them!"
