WEMT Leavenworth: Worthwhile
Date: December 6, 2009
"The course was outstanding on all accounts. I have very high standards and tend to be quite critical of most things, especially expensive ones- and, that being said, would definitely do it all over again. Instructors were class A, scenarios were well planned out and purposeful, facilities (Tierra Learning Center in Leavenworth, WA) were perfect for the course's needs and the food (thanks to Jen and Marce!) was unbelievably good. on a side note, RMI is a very well run company, staffed with scores of experts from all aspects of the backcountry-- they are an indispensable resource both during and after the course."

Great Learning Environment!
Date: December 2, 2009
Pros: tierra learning center, instructors, professionalism Cons: classroom size (30 students), use of moulage equipment
"You couldn't ask for a better learning environment. The location, instructors and the professional collegues you learn with were "On Spot". Tierra Learning Center is a great location and the amenities were outstanding. The rooms and lodge are great, I must admit the classroom was a little small for thirty students, but we made it work. The food was excellent, my compliments to the Chefs. Instructors were always available and willing help anytime. I would suggest a more in depth use of the Moulage Sets. Bring out the blood and guts, nothing like a little EMT tachycardia. I had a great time with my classmates... everyone was professional and we got along great. This class keeps on your toes, while having fun along the way."

Pros: commitment to experiential learning
"I have been practicing in the back-country and in outdoor education for over 20 years both in the U.S. and internationally. In addition I have completed a standard EMT-B course. This course offered a curriculum far more prevalent to my work world, but also to my learning style. Incorporating mock scenarios targeting skills discussed daily in the lecture portions of the course allowed an incomparable opportunity/environment to master skills. Teaching in this fashion also allows students an immediate opportunity for feedback, that often may not be possible in the field in a live situation. If you are a person who "Learns best by Doing," this is an excellent course for you!"

"I was a first time shopper and first time participant in a medical education course like the Remote Medical International WEMT course. I have to say that I am not disappointed with my choice of RMI and I did not once feel that what the course provided versus what the course cost was in any way out of balance. The lead instructors and gang of co-instructors had loads of knowledge coupled with real experiences that gave me confidence in learning from them day in and day out for the four weeks. The hands-on learning and scenarios took what was learned in the classroom and translated those things into useful skills. The facilities were very fitting, the food was great and the community atmosphere brought a nice family touch to the entire endeavor. As a student, I feel that the hard work I was willing to put in was matched by the course instructors and all of RMI. Bring on the Wilderness Paramedic course, please!"

Worth the Time and Money
Date: November 17, 2009
"Before i left, i was really worried about what the experience was going to be like and if it was worth the money. Let me tell you, IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY AND THEN SOME. From the food and facilities, to the scenarios and lectures, to the experienced teachers and other students, it was an incredible month experience. They focus the learning on thinking outside the box, not just some protocol from a book. They give problems that test you on your ability to think, not just if you can recite what you read the night before. It was an amazing experience that no other school can duplicate."

"Without a doubt the best choice for wemt. The facility was great. The instructors knowledgable, patient and excited about their subject. There were no boring instructurors. It required a lot of work, in the classroom and outside during the scenerios. I can't say enough good things. This is the class to take if you want to be a good emt or just well prepared for your own adventures. Thank you Steve, Loreen, Tyler, Mitch, Jordana, Dave and Victoria."

Pros: great instructors, great learning environment, awesome skills taught, great food, teamwork skills, instructor enthusiasm, everything was awesome!
"Tripple awesome. I had the best time of my life here! You learn invaluable life skills and get excellent training, all whilst getting to enjoy the outdoors. You get to learn more than you would in a regular and boring EMT class AND the instructors are awesome (STEVE GUTHRIE AND DAVE SVOBODNY!) Excellent instructors, with extensive knowledge and background. They are always willing to help you to learn and are very friendly, goofy, and beyond fab instructors! If you don't come to this class you would be missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime! SO SIGN UP!"

This Course Is Awesome
Date: March 20, 2009
Pros: great instructors, great course, mpic certificatioin is bad a** Cons: i could have spent another week learning
"This course was great. I had read a review by someone that wished to be taught by Paramedics. At first, I would have agreed with them. However, after being taught by the EMT-Bs with years of real life experience, I would disagree. The EMT-B and Paramedic instructors had many year to back up the information given in this course.
The bottom line is this: great instructors, great course, MPIC certification is bad a**."

You have to think, be creative, have ideas, try new things, prepare, plan.... etc. its so awesome! I recommend this to anyone seeking out a career in this field. I kept telling people it was worth it after the first week!!! I learned so much and cant wait to apply it into whatever job or life experience I encounter. "Remote Medical International: Wilderness EMT (MPIC) North Cascades Institute, Lake Diablo, WA Jan 26 - Feb 20, 2009
With my current job falling under and no immediate job security ahead, laying three grand down was not going to be an easy decision to make. Before paying up the three grand for a course through a company I had never heard of, I needed to do a little more research than just read the course description and pay it over. However, after comparing other programs with RMI's course and listening to the staff's responses to my questions, I began to trust the legitimacy of this training more than my first impression. With only 2 spots left in the month that I desired to take this course, I trusted my research and clicked the "pay now" button.
With less than 30 days of training, I knew that I would have to stay on top of my studies and apply myself diligently to practicing all of the skills this course encompassed.
Going into the first day of class, I had expectations of a high quality of training from a set of experienced professional instructors.
I was honestly surprised that the height of my expectations was actually exceeded.
The experience and skills that you receive from this course will prepare you for broad range of fields in ems.
The instructors were all professions in the field of ems. Instructors had experience in firefighting, expedition guiding, white water, ambulance, emergency room, ice skating, international travel, rescue, firefighter paramedic, and nursing. The Instructors were - Professional - Shared personal experiences - Available to help students in/outside of the instruction hours - Medical supplies were available to practice with 24/7 - Prepared students for urban & wilderness ems - Patient with all of our "what if" questions - Respectful - Fun (Yes, the instructors actually had great personalities)
The North Cascades Institute was a perfect location for this program. - Large bedrooms that accommodate 3 people per room - Living room with fireplace, mini-fridge, cabinets, sink, breakfast nook, and couches - Delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners served by Chef Charles and the staff of the NCI. - Classrooms with seating for 30 students comfortably and a view overlooking Lake Diablo - Plenty of areas to find a quiet place to study or practice skills (library, computer room, classrooms, dining area, kitchenette, amphitheater, by the lake, etc.) - With a locations like this, we had few places to find easy distraction, an abundance of wilderness to practice in, and a beautiful environment for relaxation.
I would definitely recommend this course to someone who is looking to receive quality training."

Date: February 19, 2009
Pros: experienced instructors, extended group scenarios Cons: student teaching, lacking in individual feedback
"The course prepares students thoroughly for the practical and written exams for each certification. The instructors have real world experience and, as has been frequently stated, share their enthusiasm with the class. The work load requires that students focus almost exclusively on the course. Which is not a criticism, but is a consideration if you have other commitments during the course. The extended care scenarios were great, though most would have enjoyed a few more. However, group work and a class of 30 with 3 teachers doesn't allow for much individual feedback. They are always available to talk to, but unless you are doing something egregiously wrong, you may not hear anything about your care until the end. I enjoyed the class, and feel prepared to do this in the real world."

I highly recommend this course
Date: February 19, 2009
"I am a Seasonal Law Enforcement Ranger for the U.S. National Park Service and signed up for this course to earn my EMT-B.
The Cascade Mountains are an ideal place to learn Wilderness EMT. The area has great hiking, sport climbing, and lots of peaks to climb if you have the gear.
I was most impressed by how knowledgeable the course's instructors were, especially Mount Everest guide, Melissa Arnot. The instructors are friendly, gifted, and enthusiastic educators.
I highly recommend this course."

Pros: north cascades institute staff and facility, the instructors, the fellow students, the diversity of topics Cons: student teaching
"This course was well run, well organized, and well worth the price. The instructors had that rare and fortunate combination of experience in the subject matter and apparent interest in teaching.
Topics were generally thoroughly covered and ample practice time was provided. Instructors were accessible to questions both inside and outside of the classroom--even to our endless "what if" questions. In fact, they may have tolerated a few too many of our questions."
