The Scarab will revolutionize rope rescue!
Date:July 21, 2009
Pros: small enough to fit into your pants pocket., accepts a wide size range of ropes., a whole lot of tool for the money, highly tested
"My Mt Rescue unit has transitioned solely to the Scarab from brake racks. For those training officers out there-the operation of this device is very easy to teach, and because it is so simple it is easier for the learner to remember than other devices.
We also love that you can add or remove friction while the system is running...try doing that with a brake rack! Lowering heavy rescue loads is done easily with two fingers and perfectly smooth control.
Runs smooth even with dirty wet ropes and never adds twists to the ropes- we love it!

A huge improvement over traditional brake racks
Date:July 20, 2009
"The SCARAB improves upon the traditional brake rack design in every way. The smaller, simpler design allows the rigger to achieve greater versatility in his or her system. The ability to add or remove friction from the system as needed by simply adding or removing “horns” adds a level safety not available in the traditional brake rack. With the SCARAB, there is no longer a need to bypass the brake rack in order to add or remove friction from the system. The compact design keeps things closer to the rigger and facilitates rigging where movement may be limited. The SCARAB is especially useful for the attendant during Panoramic Pick Offs where a compact lowering device enables the attendant to tie the device off with minimal movement. Our high angle team has replaced all of our brake racks with SCARABs and has used them countless times in rescues and training. There has never been a scenario where I have wanted a brake rack over a SCARAB. Very few people head into the mountains with figure eights as belay devices as newer belay devices have proved their versatility. The SCARAB represents the same leap forward in technical rope rescue."
