Great 24 Hour SAR Lite Pack
Date:June 19, 2009
Pros: durable & rugged, high quality, medical compartment w/organizers, avalanche probe holder inside, attached waterproof cover, comfortable, bladder compartment for hydro pack
Cons: compartments could be bigger, could use side pockets, sternum straps are odd...
"The Kigali 45 Pack is a great pack, although as a Search & Rescue pack, it is a bit small. So far I have used it on a mission as a 24 Hour Lite pack; not everything in a 24Hour Pack, but close. It could fit all of the contents of a full 24Hr, but it leaves little if no extra room for additional supplies.
However on the plus side, it is an excellent pack, it is extreamly high quality, from the momment I got it, I could tell this pack is going to last a long time. Some of the other features, it does have a medical compartment with medical organizers, however the compartment on mine is stuffed, with just the bare essentials. It has a good rain cover built in, and a compartment for a bladder. It fits perfectly, with the exception that the sternum straps are a bit odd, and can cut into your sides sometimes, but overall an excellent pack!
I have yet to try this out on the slopes for Ski Patrol, which from what I understand is what it was designed for, but I will most likely use it this winter on the slopes for patrolling. So in conclusion, this is an excellent pack, and well worth the money, my only complaints are: I would like it to have bigger compartments, especially the top medical, a bit bigger internal compartment, and some side compartments would be great as well. None the less though, it is an excellent pack and I would reccommend it as one of the best SAR and Patrol specific packs I have ever used. It's worth the money!"
