Almost idiot-proof
Date:August 13, 2007
Pros: Safe, easy to use
Cons: Price, ascending
"I have had the chance to use both sizes of this device now on 9, 11, and 12mm ropes. This is a very safe, easy to use device. It takes some getting used to but it is certainly not difficult to train a person on. Great for descending and being able to lock off. Ascending is a pain to say the least! If you are working on a long rope or have a load on the end weighting the rope makes it easier but this is definitely not suitable for long ascents. I understand the size limitations of the device and the need to create 2 different sizes for different diameter ropes but it makes it a big pain to carry 2 separate descenders. Despite that this is still a great tool and I love using it!"

Operating Environment: Seattle, WA
Great for Access/Rescue
Date:April 19, 2007
Pros: Redundant, Safe, Easy to Learn & Use
Cons: Ascending more difficult than ascenders
"This is an amazing device for its function. We added them to Rope Access protocols for a client, and for rappelling, they are the safest device I have seen, redundant, easy to use and limited rope twist. While you can use them to ascend, it is difficult since you have to pull the rope upwards which tires out the arms a little - regular ascenders are still more efficient."
